Camvliez (Gameboy tune)
May 30th, 2007New tune in the making. There a few things that need to be polished, but it’s almost completed. There’s not much to say about it. I decided was told to make a tune, and so I did. The result is a pretty funky thing with a lot of small variation.

cool tune! break to- and latter part is esp. cool
needs more large scale variation… like replacing that very contiguous lead with like.. something funky in one part.. like a non-lead-dude solo if in a band

Thanks for the comments guys, especially n!m.
The only reason I didn’t provide a DDL link was because the stupid flash mp3 player I installed decided to turn all mp3 links into players. \:
I’ll fix that when I have the time, and till then, copy and paste this link:

how about the original instead. making an mp3 of a chiptune is just retarded. what’s it on anyway? gbc? gba? just xm?

Skrebbel: I understand your feeling about it, but the thing is that this song is made with Little Sound Dj. (On DMG, the original GB, if you wonder)
LSDj suffers from a version hell. Just about every new version modifies the format spec, for example some versions handle things like legato in a totally different way. One version added a new command, and instead of placing it on top of the other commands, it was placed at the bottom, so you had to shift all commands one step to the left for the song to work. To add to the mess the player version of the ROM is only available for a few snapshot versions.
Also, the file format does not include a space for your own samples, which means that if you want to use your own samples and distribute the song, you also need to distribute a kit file which has to be patched to the ROM. (You could of course also just distribute the ROM, if you can find a version that works ok)
Distributing an mp3 is my way of guaranteeing that the song wil sound like I intended it to sound.
LSDj’s save format is not a de facto standardized format like mod, s3m, xm etc, that you can drop into any player or tracker and it’ll just work. At the very least you need to get an emulator and a ROM. I think things like these will discourage most people from actually listening to the song.
In the LSDj community, (Which btw mostly has little or no scene connection) some sort of waveform format is the accepted distribution format, and there’s not much I can do about it.
It’s just not worth the effort for the listener and the risk of differences in the sound to distribute a sav file, at least not as the only format.
I’ll consider releasing the sav when it’s polished and finished, but for the time being, no.
