Shitwave+Ableton Live (Brian Green)

June 3rd, 2009

Shitwave running in KiGB, fed into Live. At times like these I feel ashamed that I haven’t added support for any kind of MIDI control yet. It would make Shitwave much more useful for actual composition. But at the point it was more of a proof of concept.

@Nitro: What sort of MIDI control do you envisage with this? (ie. mapping)

Seb: I’m imagining controlling the tap positions at least, maybe the tap return points as well. Pitch, although pitch might be hard as the current shitwave plays at 60 Hz which just happens to be how often the buffer is refreshed. Since the playback position is reset every time the buffer is refreshed, you’ll get a sync type effect. (Which might or might not be desirable)
Volume could be controlled too. Since SW is only using one channel I could safely I could safely use the master volume register to control the volume and get 7 steps instead of 3, without the bit reduction.

For VJ effects I imagine controlling different aspects of the visualization.
Gosh, someone needs to make a VST Gameboy emulator, where you can run a ROM inside the emulator.
