30 days, 30 tunes - Day 4: Fake Vader Dub + Day 3: Grainbrain
May 5th, 2009Another unfinished track, but damn so good. Yeah, I’m pleased with how this came out. Pretty massive. This is a dubby tune loosely based on the Imperial March main melody. (Yes, one note is wrong, and that’s the way I want it. It’s not meant to be a cover of the march.)

For day 3 I posted the first part of what will become my 72h challenge submission. It’s some crazy glitchy break cutting/granular synthesis using only the Gameboy’s wave channel in LSDj’s kit mode.

30 days, 30 tunes - Day 2: Summer Love
May 3rd, 2009It’s a bit unfinished, especially the beat and the drums which repeat through out the song without hange, but I’m pretty happy with it.
30 days, 30 tunes - Day 1
May 1st, 2009So, I boldly joined this challenge to write 30 songs in 30 days.
The idea of it is that in a timeframe of 30 days you are to write 30 songs. These songs can be a 10 second long melody and bassline or an epic, melodic 15 minute long piece.
There is little chance of actually completing 30 masterpieces, but that isn’t the point. The point is to push your boundaries of what you would normally do.
I’m writing a small DB app which will soon be available where participants can submit their tracks which are then displayed in a table with each person’s name as the row and the days as columns. Until that’s done, I’ll make a post everyday here on my blog with links to all tracks for that day.
calmdownkidder - Erm, short but… short
the ant boy - Nice acidish tune made with ProTrekkr.

Time To Get Obscure - Compilation for weird time signatures
January 19th, 2009Time To Get Obscure is a compilation focusing on weird time signature organized by Beware on 8bitcollective. Weird is defined by anything else than 4/4 or 3/4. My track is called Exactyla.
RPM Challenge - Make an album in 28 days
January 19th, 2009Much like the now defunct Project 168, RPM Challenge is about making an album in a limited amount of time. Project 168 was 168 hours, or one week, RPM Challenge is one month, and I think I’ll enter just to mourn the loss of Project168 which I loved for different reasons.
Lavos’ Cave v1 (Ambient/drone music piece) + some fail poetry
January 11th, 2009
Here’s the first mixdown of this piece that I’ve dubbed Lavos’ Cave. The name, of course, is an hommage to one of the greatest RPG’s.
It’s an ambient/drone piece that I’ve made by layering several feedback loops. The result is a really moody and organic sound that slowly progresses as you meditate and travel through an imaginary cave.
This is just the first crude version. I will make a final mixdown later where I fix some of the nasty clipping and equalize the tracks a bit to make them stand out a bit more against each other. The clipping is due to the fact that this piece was recorded using feedback paths in analogue gear (except for the reverb which is technically not analogue but mechanical ) so things went out of hand sometimes.

And some random thoughts that crossed my mind on my way home the other night. Some kind of failed emo poetry or something.
I could take a picture of the ice
Try to remember the endless perfection
With which it revealed itself.
A splendid crystalline structure, a comples cavity,
Leading to an infinite grid of tunnels.
Just like in my autistic childhood fantasies
Ever so cold, ever so distant, ever so near
The place where I want to rest my mind forever
Exploring new paths, new places
With no one interrupting me
^ That’s something I scribbled down in my notebook when waiting for the bus, too tired, too caffeinated. Fits the mood of the music perfectly.
New song draft: Knarkkatt
December 9th, 2008Thought I’d post this. It’s the first draft of a sort of chip+ambient song I’m working on.
The chip sounds are pretty melodic, described by some as “shimmering” Actually the melody is from “Belsebub Till Frukost” which can be heard on my myspace. (Skip to about 3 minutes into the song)
The pads are made with Reaktor and are somewhat detuned and played to color the chords of the chip melody. The result is a really moody feeling.
Sorry for building a suspense and then ending abruptly, but it’ll make you enjoy it even more when it’s finished.

Pixels to Polygons Podcast (Teh winrar is me)
October 22nd, 2008
So, I’ve just won a TTDS flash cart for Nintendo DS from the podcast Pixels to Polygons. It’s a podcast mainly about gaming, but also other things like politics, pop culture and life in general. They had a little trouble pronouncing my name (Which I found pretty funny) and were generally confused about who I am. So… A brief intro: I’m a chiptuner and geek in general, and I’m from Sweden. I heard about the contest on the Benheck forums, and that’s why I’m confused over why you’re confused. I’m more known under the name of nitro2k01. CronoTriggerfan, you even quoted my post in the forums, and I know you’ve seen before, and I’m pretty active there, but not in Forum 42 of course.
Anyway, you’re crying for feedback, so here goes:
- Realistically, most people probably don’t listen to a podcast straight from the beginning to end, and I think it could be a bit shorter. I think 40 minutes is just about right, or a full hour if you add music pauses. I also think it might be a good idea to make a content table with approximate times in case somebody wants to skip certain segments. also, don’t hesitate to edit the podcast before publishing if needed.
- Add some music. Not just the into and outro music, but maybe 2-3 songs during the podcast. Maybe also some background music. Perhaps I could even help you out with that. Or at least add some sort of signature melody that you play to divide the show into different segments.
- One of you guys (George, I believe) had some Skype problems, and sometimes his voice faded out. Maybe you should try to do something about that. The joke about Josh Wiley’s “long and hard” last level almost got lost. He also said something about my last name that got completely lost.
- Organize the show. Do a rough script of the topics you want to cover (you seem to be doing this already) and discuss it before recording. Especially important, practice pronouncing people’s names.
- Make the show more interactive. Ask people to ask questions. You could even add a segment to the show where you choose a topic each week and let people send questions or opinions on that topic that you answer and discuss. For all I know, you could even let people call over Skype and ask questions.
- And yeah, last but not least. Stop burping in the microphone. Srsly!
So yeah, that’s about it. Consider these points until next time.
Because I found the mispronounciation of my name so funny that I’m posting that clip here. I took the liberty to edit the clip slightly and also make some background music for it.
